Legal Project Manager Competency Assessment

The Legal Project Manager Competency Assessment survey tool is a self-assessment instrument that uses the IILPM Legal Project Management Competency Framework™   to provide you useful insights to your level of knowledge, work experience and competency level aligned to excel in the Legal Project Manager role, independent if you are a practicing or non-practising lawyer, allied legal professional, certified project manager working in a legal entity or an investigator.

The assessment takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and you will later receive a customised 8-page report that will provide you with direct feedback on your competencies and specific areas for further development.

There is an optional debrief where you can discuss your results with a consultant who will help you create a professional career development plan.

The assessment has 6 assessment areas:

Personal Information and Role Experience - this section collects the respondent’s personal information for the report and current employment status and the legal environment employed within.

Legal Practice - this section assesses the respondent’s knowledge and practice exposure to legislative, procedural rules and ethical responsibilities of the practice of law. It generally covers four key questions that assesses the respondent’s level of exposure to working in a legal-based environment and their level of exposure to the organisation.

Legal Operations - this section assesses the respondent’s knowledge and practice exposure to policies, processes, information management and the associated supporting technologies of the business of law. It covers eleven key questions that assesses the respondent’s knowledge, experience and influence across the key business areas of a legal-based organisation.

Legal Project Lifecycle - this section assesses the respondent’s knowledge and practice exposure to the approach, methods and techniques of defining, planning, delivering and closing legal matters and other legal projects. It covers twenty-seven key questions that assesses the respondent’s knowledge and experience specific to the legal project management function.

Leadership and People Dynamics - this section assesses the respondent’s knowledge and practice exposure to the soft skills required to engage key stakeholders and manage legal projects. It covers a wide analysis of the respondent’s thinking and approaches to work, engagement and professional development.  It considers areas such as leadership style and experience, communication and interpersonal styles, team engagement, and conflict and dispute approaches.
